This morning former Vermont Governor Howard Dean served as the Democrats' foreign policy expert-- he was the counterpoint to National Security Advisory Condileeza Rice on Meet the Press, where both talked about the country's most pressing national security issues. Condi has been considered one of the country's leading experts in foreign policy since at least the early '90s.
Isn't it ironic that many of Dean's Democratic opponents, potential Republican challengers, pundits, and others claimed Dean wasn't ready for the Presidency due to a lack of foreign policy experience? Didn't Dean himself once say he needed to fill that "hole" in his resume?
Yet, Tim Russert asked Dean on the show this morning how Dean could support Kerry even though Kerry wasn't quite as strong in his foreign policy judgment as Dean (not those exact words, but that sentiment). Dean was very gracious and extremely supportive of Kerry, and said Kerry would be much better than Bush, Kerry truly believes in internationalism, and will succeed in resolving Iraq.
